Shillong gets country's seventh IIM

SHILLONG, july 4:: Shillong has once again regained its past glory with the seventh Indian Institute of Management (IIM) coming up here.

The seventh ace business school of the country — Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM) — will be formally inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy at the North Eastern Hill University (Nehu) Mayurbhanj complex at Nongthymmai here on Friday.

PROBE MV REZZAK'S DISAPPEARANCE AFRESH

London, July 3: India has asked the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to look afresh into the disappearance of MV Rezzak.

The vessel, registered in Panama and owned by a Turkish company, with 25 Indian crew members onboard, had gone missing in the Black Sea on February 18.

UNFPA asks G8 nations to prioritise population issues

New York, July 3: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Thursday appealed to the Group of Eight (G8) industrialised nations to prioritise population issues in its discussions of climate change and food security.

"Preventing unwanted pregnancies through voluntary family planning and guaranteeing people's right to reproductive health can help slowpopulation growth and moderate its environmental impact," Safiye agar, UNFPA Director for Information and External Relations said. CPM asks govt to pursue CMP instead of nuke deal

New Delhi, July 3: Warning the UPA that the BJP is now nurturing hopes of returning to power, the CPM today asked the Government to implement the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) in the right earnest instead of passionately pursuing issues like the nuclear deal. In an editorial in its mouthpiece People's Democracy, the party told the Government not to bank on its support if it planned to go ahead with the deal.

IBM India Lab develops data security solution for call centres

Kolkata, July 3: The Indian lab of IBM has brought out a next generation solution to protect against theft of sensitive data from call centres, a major concern of the growing Indian outsourcing market.

"We have developed a solution that offers advanced data masking technology, which is a speech analytics tool that detects and masks private and sensitive information, both audio and onscreen without disrupting customer services or business operations," IBM India Research Laboratory Director Guruduth Banavar told PTI.

Crude import bill may soar to USD 110-120 billion in FY'09

Madrid, July 3: India's crude import bill may jump by up to 76 per cent to USD 110-120 billion this year based on current global prices, Petroleum Secretary M S Srinivasan said today."It will go up (even more) if the prices rise further," he told reporters on the sidelines of the 19th World Petroleum Congress as crude prices rose to a record USD 144 a barrel today.  In 2007-08, the import bill was 67.988 billion dollars and the country had imported 121.672 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Armed action against Iran unacceptable: Mukherjee

Cairo, July 3: India has said any unilateral armed action against Iran is totally "unacceptable and undesirable" and should be disapproved of by the international community. 

"In respect of Iran, I entirely agree with the Egyptian Foreign Minister that there should be no armed engagement. UN office in Pak receives threats, staff told to stay at home

Islamabad, July 3: A United Nations office in the Pakistani capital received a threatening phone call, prompting the organisation to ask its staffers to stay at home due to the security threat. A threatening phone call was made to a Gender Support Programme office of the UN here on Tuesday and investigations are underway, UN Communication Officer Amna Ali Kamal said. A suicide car bomb attack outside the Danish Embassy here last month had caused extensive damage to the office of a UN-backed non-governmental organisation. Eight persons were killed in that attack. New Delhi, July 3: Normal life was hit in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra as saffron activists stopped trains, blocked roads and forced closure of shops in the wake of an all-India bandh called by BJP and VHP on the Amarnath land transfer issue.

India to get Russian nuclear submarine after 17 years

Moscow, July 3: India will get its first Akula class Russian nuclear submarine next year, equipping its navy with the quietest and lethal underwater war machine after a gap of 17 years to enhance its blue water capabilities.

 
 Factory trials of the multi-role nuclear submarine, christened INS Chakra, which India will get on a 10-year-lease, commenced on June 11 at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur shipyard and will be followed by sea trials, Russian defence sources said, adding it
